Smilodon — Bone Forge Skeleton
Description ▾
Smilodon — popularly known as the sabre-toothed tiger, though it was no tiger — was one of the most formidable predators of the Pleistocene. Living across the Americas from around 2.5 million years ago until its extinction roughly 10,000 years ago, it was a powerfully built ambush hunter with upper canine teeth extending up to 18 cm below its jaw. Despite the popular image of a sprinting apex predator, Smilodon was built for brute strength: thick forelimbs for pinning prey, a reinforced skull for muscle attachment, and a lethal bite delivered to the throat. Its name, from the Ancient Greek for "scalpel tooth," says everything.
This articulated skeleton is designed by Pinkywings and printed at Mystmere Forge in totem carving stone filament — a warm, layered stone colour with natural light and dark brown variation that suits the deep-time character of this animal particularly well. The model is 17 cm nose to tail, hand-finished, with all joints articulated freely. A bone white filament version is also available for those who prefer the lighter palette.
