Anglerfish — Bone Forge Skeleton
Description ▾
The deep-sea anglerfish (Melanocetus johnsonii) lives in near-total darkness at depths of up to 1,500 metres, where it hunts using one of nature’s most extraordinary adaptations: a bioluminescent lure grown from a modified fin ray, glowing via a colony of symbiotic bacteria living inside it. It floats motionless in the dark, lure pulsing, until prey investigates — then strikes with a jaw capable of unhinging to nearly 180 degrees, swallowing animals up to twice its own size. The curved, depressable teeth fold inward so that nothing that enters the mouth can leave it.
This articulated skeleton is designed by Pinkywings and printed at Mystmere Forge in totem carving stone filament — the warm amber and dark brown layering picks out every detail of the oversized skull, the hinged jaw, the segmented spine, and the iconic lure. The model is approximately 16 cm, hand-finished, with all joints articulated freely.
