Description

Pteranodon was not a dinosaur but something stranger: a flying reptile that soared above the shallow inland sea covering what is now the American midwest, roughly 86 to 100 million years ago. With a wingspan of up to 7.6 metres in the largest males and hollow bones fine as eggshell, it was built for effortless sustained flight — riding thermals over open water and plunging for fish with its long, toothless jaws. The distinctive bony crest projecting from the back of the skull was present in both sexes, though male crests grew considerably larger and likely served as a display structure. Pteranodon is the best-represented pterosaur in the fossil record, with over 1,200 specimens known — enough to reveal striking differences between males and females, and strong evidence of colonial behaviour.

This articulated skeleton model is designed by Pinkywings and printed by Mystmere Forge in totem carving stone filament — a warm, tactile material hand-finished in light and dark earthy browns that evokes excavated bone. The set includes the skeleton itself with moveable joints and a separate sculpted nest with eggs, making it one of the most complete pieces in the Bone Forge range. The wingspan measures approximately 12 cm.

Part of the Bone Forge collection — prehistoric skeletons finished by hand in Essex, UK. Each piece ships with a printed fact sheet covering the species, the science, and the model.
