This is a made-to-order articulated display model, not a real skeleton. The totem carving stone filament uses warm amber and dark brown layers to highlight the oversized skull, teeth, spine and lure.

The deep-sea anglerfish Melanocetus johnsonii lives in near-total darkness at depths of up to 1,500 metres. It attracts prey with a bioluminescent lure grown from a modified fin ray, then strikes with a wide-opening jaw and inward-curving teeth.
